BANKS AND CURRENCY
All major Mexican national banks are represented.
For your convenience, many locations have ATM machines that accept
US bank cards in the same manner as they do at home.
Transaction fees may vary (usually around $3) and ATMs dispense
Mexican pesos, the official unit of currency. Although recommended,
it is not necessary to exchange your dollars since the dollar (not
including coins) and traveler’s checks are widely accepted
in Los Cabos.
Banks are usually open weekdays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday
through Friday, and most are open on Saturday from 10:00 am to 2:00
pm. Most branches will only handle currency exchange up to 1:00
pm on weekdays, so be sure to stop by early in the day or ask if
currency exchange is available before you stand in line.
Major credit cards are also accepted throughout the Los Cabos destination,
with the exception of a few small businesses and shops, so be sure
to ask the merchant before making a purchase. When using a credit
card, the total on your statement will be reflected in pesos at
the exchange rate posted that day.
Be sure to ask your Concierge for the day’s
exchange rate or visit a local bank to inquire. You should also
be aware that the currency symbol ($) is the same in both countries
so $10 could either be 10 dollars or $10 pesos, be sure to ask before
making a purchase.
